Political Cube

1/20/2011 4:01:46 AM by Data
While I like the approach used in many variants of 2D economics/politics freedom models, I came to a conclusion that for many people a 3D model will give much better insight on political and economical issues. To better describe the political spectrum I introduce a third orthogonal vector of Internationalism/Nationalism. So, instead of four quadrants of 2D projections we will have 8 octants.

For better compliance with common political terminology I will direct that vector from left to right (from Internationalism to Nationalism). The Political Freedom vector keeps its familiar place and goes from the bottom to the top (from Complete...

lefties, meet your brother Hitler

1/15/2011 4:11:55 AM by Data
There have been "discussion" going on there fascism stand in its economic policy. http://forum.sbrforum.com/politics-economics/884093-latest-crazy-tea-partier-nevermind-just-another-crazy-lefty-p2.html. We have been using 2D model as a basis of discussion.

At some point I said:
On the left-right economic scale Hitler is close to zero
I want to take this back. Admittedly, I did not put too much thought into this and just followed my feelings and what the other people sharing my views think on the subject. However, now, I put some thought into this and come to the conclusion that Hitler and Nazi Germany were clearly and undeniably on the left side of the economic policy...

The Best Post of the Decade

12/30/2010 1:07:22 AM by Data
I just realized that now is not just the end of the year but the end of the decade. I think now is the perfect time to give credits where credits are due.

I nominate this post:
I've for some time been a bit embarrassed by my rather egregiousness overcomplication of the mathematical curiosity that is the unconstrained simultaneous independent event Kelly solution, which I detailed over 3 years ago in this thread.

So to rectify in brief:
Given N independent events, x[sub]1[/sub], x[sub]2[/sub], ..., x[sub]N[/sub], with corresponding single bet Kelly stakes of [hcc]kappa[/hcc][sub]1[/sub], [hcc]kappa[/hcc][sub]2[/sub], ..., [hcc]kappa[/hcc][sub]N[/sub], the...

old news but I just learned something disgusting about the US

11/19/2010 11:53:29 PM by Data
Yeah, about that country, the land of the free. That country gone mad and there is no more justice. The country without justice is a shit hole. Here, witness the triumph of the bureaucracy over common sense previously seen only in totalitarian countries.

Most of us have seen advertisements to buy gold or offering cash for gold. With the economy still unsettled and gold prices steadily rising, you may be tempted.
But not all gold investments are safe.
On Tuesday, Representative Anthony D. why the followers are more likely to lose

10/24/2010 10:54:15 PM by Data
There is a very large number of bettors whom I will call here the followers. They may be following different things. It could be a winning handicapper or it could be a system that won ATS. They may realize they do not know if the capper will keep winning or if the lines will adjust to make the system unprofitable. So, they think that they will ride along while it wins and will stop as it starts losing. Sounds great but in practice it works just as opposite, they stick with the system while it loses and sit on the...

BTP is full of ghosts

10/6/2010 10:39:48 PM by Data
SBR, please clean up. Apparently, there was in infusion of ghosts due to BTP contest and they are spamming the board to get their daily points.

I would not notice but some mod moved a thread to "Politics and Economics" subforum, http://forum.sbrforum.com/politics-economics/710143-firefighters-watch-home-burns-ground.html' While looking at all the unknown posters I could not help but noticed a strange pattern: davi8mika, clin5mai, lamp9fran, all joined in the middle of July.

I thought I'd check their points log. What I saw was the same pattern repeated every day: logon, post a one-sentence message in a few minutes, wait till next day. I kept opening more...

the mortgage crisis is just a smoke and mirrors

8/11/2010 5:38:38 AM by Data
I noticed a number of threads where people talking about the mortgage crisis as of the main cause of the economic mess the US finds itself in. I think that debunking this worth a separate thread. I will be brief to encourage research on these matters and the discussion might just follow, more importantly, I want to go to bed.

So, here is my brief take on what happened to the US economy in 21st century.
* after the dot-com buble burst the Fed keeps pumping money into economy to avoid slowdown
* 9/11, every investor is shit scared, the Fed opens the...

Democracy is overrated

7/23/2010 2:23:40 AM by Data
I just love Singapore.

The strange thing that I have been thinking about lately is that I fancy myself as a libertarian and Singapore is by far a free society. There are a few points in their politics that I completely disagree with, the main are discrimination of gays and sports betting restrictions. However, I do believe that eventually they will change because most everything else makes sense for me and those items are just historical artifacts.

Make no mistake, I love Hong Kong even more but the economic freedom that both countries enjoy seem much more important than their political systems.

Both...

Pissed, totally disagree with the board's sentiment, hence the new entry

4/11/2010 10:14:29 PM by Data

He could not even die in decency but had to take another life with him. The way he died just confirms, for those in doubt, what kind of person he was. Poor J and her family. RIP, J. What is the reason she is dead? He is. That makes him a MURDERER.

ROT IN HELL, THE SHRINK.
